FLOWER SHOW SETS CREATIVE CHALLENGE TO ALL VILLAGERS
The team behind the Claygate Flower and Village Show is already plottng, planning and organising this year’s event which will set the Recreation Ground buzzing all afternoon on Saturday July 12.
It will feature all the usual family favourites: entertainment in the arena, the fairground, the dog show, local businesses, refreshments, classic cars, charity and community groups, tug-of-war and children’s sports, to name but a few.
But central to this well-loved show is the Grand Exhibition Marquee, where exhibitors young and old can enter and display all they have created during the year.
Organisers are keen to encourage more people to enter exhibits – there’s a category for everyone, whether it’s home-made jam, a holiday photograph, courgettes, roses from the garden, a cake made from a vegetable, or a craft – a sculpture, needlework, collage. And much more. To get the ball rolling, Flower Show committee members and helpers will be handing out seeds to anyone attending the wonderful Claygate Street Market in The Parade on Sunday March 30.
CLAYGATE COUNTRY FIVE RUN
On the Sunday before the Flower Show, hundreds of runners will be taking part in the annual Claygate Country Five Run on Sunday July 6. It follows a beautiful course around Claygate, exploring footpaths through the woods and across Claygate and Arbrook Commons. It attracts runners from far and wide and groups from running clubs – and everyone, no maer how fast or slow, is welcome to sign up. The run begins and ends on the Recreation Ground.

2025 FLOWER SHOW DATE
The date for next year’s Claygate Flower and Village Show has been set—so mark Saturday July 12 2025 in your diaries.
The fine weather for this year’s show meant it was well attended, with the number of entries for most categories in the exhibition tent being well up on the previous year. But there is always room for more and the organisers would love to see another big rise in villagers demonstrating their creativity and green fingers. And all feedback is welcome.
Preparations for the 2025 Show begin in earnest early next year. In the meantime, organisers will spend the coming months on such mundane but vital projects as pre-ordering equipment, negotiating deposits, and liaising with Elmbridge Borough Council over an amended “licence to operate” that will require even more comprehensive risk assessments, method statements and more expensive fees.
New recruits will also be especially welcome, as the organisers have lost some key volunteers due to health reasons and not yet found replacements. New people can also bring new ideas and there is always scope for innovation. SHOW ORGANISERS ASK MORE PARENTS TO GET INVOLVED
The date for this year's Claygate Flower and Village Show has been set for July 13 and the organisers are always looking for new volunteers and ideas – and would particularly like more people with younger children to be involved with preparations and innovations.
The Show on the Recreation Ground provides an opportunity for villagers of all ages to exhibit their skill with flowers, vegetables, fruit, baking, painting, photography and a variety of handicrafts in the main exhibition tent. There is entertainment for everyone all afternoon, including the ever-popular classic car display, dog show, funfair, farm animals, children’s sports and traditional games – and a variety of local attractions performing in the main arena. The “stalls village” offers a variety of products and information – and refreshments are available across the site.
Tickets and programmes, as well as information about how to exhibit, will be available in late spring or early summer on the Claygate Flower & Village Show page on Facebook.
Prices will be unchanged in recognition of the difficult times, even though the show's costs have gone up and it made a loss last year. If you can offer help, please contact info@claygateflowershow.co.uk.
