Death of Mark Sugden

From Claygate
Mark Sugden (1960-2025)

It is with great sadness that we hear that Cllr Mark Sugden has passed away.

After growing up in West Yorkshire, and an international business career, Mark moved to Claygate in 2007. In 2013 he was first elected to the parish council which he served for nine consecutive years as a councillor and as chairman for five.

He was elected to Surrey County Council in 2021 as division member for Hinchley Wood, Claygate and Oxshott.

He served with distinction on the Children, Families, Lifelong Learning and Culture select committee, as well as the Communities, Environment and Highways select committee—the latter of which he was vice-chairman.

Mark is fondly remembered by his colleagues for both his good humour and his determination to serve his residents.

Our sympathies are with his family, friends, and all who knew him.
